    I recall my spouse and I scuba diving in Florida shortly after the 2000 election.  We met another couple, but when they learned we were from Texas they seemed decidedly "stand-offish".  After informing them that "NO" we did not vote for him, in fact we despised his politics, they were much friendlier.  Turned out they were Canadian.

    Disparaging opinions of Texans are not without some credible basis.  I resent the stereotyping, but it's not wholly unjustified.  Let's challenge it by changing this state from red to blue.

      to outsiders who all believe the blatant politicians are the real examples.
      When I was a kid, the loud, hat wearing oil (almost JR) was the stereotype. I lived overseas and when people heard I was from Texas it was all about oil wells and Stetsons.
      Now, it seems, we are known out there for ignorance and little else.
