  •  Republicans made a deal with the devil when they (6+ / 0-)

tied their election campaigns to right wing religion.  I can't even use the term "Christian" along with that group of "worshippers."

Religion in any case is a matter of faith. It defines things in black and white, good and bad, flesh and spirit.  There is no equivocation:  you believe or you don't.

Politics is a matter of compromise.  By necessity, it is where a group of people come together, find common ground and move ahead to forge a path via compromise.

Compromise is a lesson every toddler needs to learn.  Yes, the toy is yours, but it doesn't hurt to let someone else touch it or play with it.

When religion is married with politics, nothing works.  This was part of the genius of the founders keeping religion out of government:  No religious test for office.  Freedom of religion. Separation of Church and State.

The defining wall allows compromise to happen. Since the Republicans are now more than married to the religious right and all their nutty conspiracy theories, they are trapped. They have no room to maneuver between their insane base and the necessity of governing.

And they can thank Ronald Reagan for leading the way there.

I'm looking forward to their collapse.  It cannot come soon enough.

Perhaps then well get the rightish-wing Democrats of today, plus a new workers' party or peoples' party that stands up for the little guys again.
