    the law and whether the points you make were met in terms of your definition of Manning being tortured.

    You did make one curious point, however, which slightly contradicts your argument when you said this:

    Gitmo cases can't be tried because they're tainted by torture. At least Manning gets a military proceeding (with all its limits), which will hopefully find the he was tortured, meaning he would have to be set free.
    If U.S. officials decided against commencing trials for individuals out of a desire to hide or cover-up what they understand as torture of said individuals while under government custody, then the fact that a trial is now underway in the Manning case may suggest they believe they have nothing to hide here.... We shall see....
