    The point of my post was that our crazy is relegated to the sidelines.  But we still have crazy.  Crazy wants a foothold, it wants validation, and it needs to be critiqued so it can't.  People believe in crazy ideas because it provides validation, it provides certainty, it is easy.

    When Republicans look at Democrats, that's what they see.  GM corn hysteria is probably the most mainstreamed kook position in the Democratic culture.  In their estimation, Democrats are the party of crazy.

    The point of my post was that if 'both sides do it' in equal measure, I would not be a Democrat.

    But I am.  The parties are not mirrors of one another in this respect.

    Democrats are slightly biased in favor of skepticism and science.

    Republicans are pretty heavily biased against skepticism and science.
