    Is there a better future for this system up for consideration?  I'm wondering how the problems and lack of support+opportunities for the affected people might be solved over time, regardless of the system's existence as it is today or not.
    It is a real problem, but to solve it by destroying the reservation system is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. (not that you suggested that).

    My son is an economics major at Yale and is working with Native leaders to find solutions to this problem.  He is still learning, but I pray he will be part of the solution. His concern (and most other Natives') is how to maintain the cultural aspects of tribal life while bringing economic self-sufficiency to the tribes.
