  •  IMHO the most important things to remember (8+ / 0-)

    when contemplating quitting.
    1. Whatever you think smoking is, it is really, primarily a drug addiction. As you leave the addiction treadmill, you will see that your nic-need was at most illusory, or at the very least, incredibly overrated.
    2. If you are depressed, anxious, sad, etc. you will self medicate with a powerful drug - nicotine.
    3. Smoking is an avoidance behavior. Nicotine is a powerful anesthetic. You can use smoking to avoid internalizing the problems in your life, though of course, alcohol is more widely used for this purpose. But you will at least avoid getting in better health as long as you are smoking.
    4. If 10,000 cigarettes did not get rid of your nic fit, the next one you light up won't either. The only way to get rid of it is to quit the drug.
    5. Quitting smoking and moving to a non-smoking lifestyle will be one of the most rewarding achievements in your life.

    Just my humble opinion...
