Have won. Perhaps the point is one should quote Krugman (or any other winner) referring to their name and position on X without the prize as a qualification, since it is not an endorsement of anything else than the work cited.

the person in question has done rigorous study in the field and has even developed his/her own theories or advanced predecessors' theories in a rigorous manner.  It certainly doesn't mean that whatever the person has to say on economics (let alone other policy or politics in general) is to be taken as infallible.  :)  Which is obvious since, as you point out, winners of this prize often disagree with each other.

Just like on the Supreme Court, nine constitutional scholars can disagree among themselves on what the Constitution has to say on any given matter.

I would agree, but it's totally irrelevant in many cases.

Quick: Can you cite the work Krugman did to win his prize?

And how does that apply to anything else?

I'd rather not spam this thread repeating the same arguments, but if you are interested, see my other comments where I explore this slippery slope.

It's a bit like saying a dentist is specially qualified to discourse on heart surgery because he's a doctor, board certified and got a prize for excellent bridgework.
