    Mie scattering of particles peaks where the particle diameter is equal to the wavelength of light (see my notes...)

    x = 2 π r/λ  and that is a pi not an n, thanks Kos for the lousy font set.

    So Chou is near the Mie peak.  

    Now why holes over particles of a given radius?  Babinet's principle.  A screen of holes is the same as a film with just the holes coated and otherwise transparent.

    Ain't physics fun?

    Also re gold.... Any metal film will do.  I'm sure that aluminum would work the same.

      past what I remember from my college physics, but still very interesting.  Methinks I need to dust off a few cobwebs from that part of the brain.  I need more Sheldon Cooper and less Howard Wolowitz.
