    This is politically motivated on the part of the Senate? When did racism and misogyny become political motivations on the part of the House? I suppose there are Republican women who oppose this bill too -- shame on them.

    On the other hand, thank you for citing two of my favorite books. Intimate Matters is impressive (and I know John) and Carey McWilliams, who wrote Southern California: An Island on the Land is one of our most important progressives but no one ever remembers that he edited The Nation for twenty years (1955-1975) and probably set the table for more reforms than he's given credit for.
