I'm not really a fan of paying that much for my coffee, since I tend to drink a pot or two a day, which would drive me into debt if I got them from a coffee shop :)

    •  Yeah, it's clearly overpriced. (3+ / 0-)

But it comes in this sleek little white-and-green pod! And it's given a fancy pseudo-Euro name! And if you get the white chocolate mocha, it's loaded with sugar.

I mean, what's not to like?

Of coure, you have to overlook the demise of local coffee emporiums, displaced by Starbucks' habit of carpet-bombing neighborhoods with franchises, until even their own outlets can no longer compete with one another and only one is left standing. (There can be only one!)

And one has to somehow cease to feel squeamish about the fact that every aspect of the Starbucks Experience (TM) is focus-grouped to within an inch of its' life, right down to the chipper greeting of, "what can I get started for you today?"

The latest thing that irks me is the tendency, when they get your credit card, to then proceed to address you by your first name. As if the barista is my best friend or something.

... but I still go there, of course. :-/

I pass a fairly small 'mall' area off and on that I know has 2 standalone starbucks and a starbucks inside a barnes and noble, all within a few hundred yards of each other.  They've all been there a while, so there must actually be the traffic to support them, but it just seems like serious overkill.

      •  They do a better chai tea blend (0+ / 0-)

than most of the other places I've visited -- most tend to skimp on the spices but Starbucks seems to have it just right.

      •  We go to (0+ / 0-)

Dutch Bros.  It's a regional chain in the West.
