      …to do with it. When the (eventual) Allied powers saw Germany's BF-109s in action—a highly effective aircraft for nearly a decade  (I'm reliably informed by my father—a radio operator/gunner survivor of 35 missions in B-17s during the last six months of 1944)—all biplane designs were scrapped forthwith. The debut of the Zero in the Pacific further sealed the bipes' fate.

        for extra fuel, I seemed to remember, making it a temporary biplane. I found it here, unless a hoax of some kind.

        But of course that's different from being a fulltime biplane.
