    I just looked it up & see that Michigan elects the appellate court judges & Supreme Court justices, who identify with a political party. That is a terrible terrible system.  

    One silver lining about Flroida, the Judicial Nominating Commission (a group of attorneys assembled by the Florida Bar Ass'n) selects a pannel of potential jugdges, from which the governor has to pick when there is a vacancy.  

    Judges face retention elections every four years, to loose their seat, 60% have to vote in favor of firing the judge.  I don't think a judge has ever lost a retention election.  The Koch brothers poured millions into the state to unseat Supreme Court justices in the 2010 and 2012 elections, they didn't come close.  

    Sorry I went a bit overboard w/ my impromtu Florida judicial branch lesson!
