Haven't thought of these guys in a LONG time, glad they're still at it! One of the few 80s bands I never photoed (covered different genre circle) but they got a lot of respect from peers for their musicianship - something sadly lacking from today's music. And I used to listen to them in secret to relieve my ears from the 3-chord bands I had to listen to!

One of the things I miss about 80s music was how so many bands found a way to squeeze a sax into the mix! How often do you hear a sax today? Such a great sound.

were using some of the same session musicians as Steely Dan while recording in New York.  People definately react positively to a sax, today's popular music really misses this dimension.

Fagen and Becker would have multiple session players come in to record tracks on an instrument (I think they had 9 guitarists come in to record the line on 'Peg', for example) then they'd mix, listen, and decide on which to use.

Eventually the best Danites would move on and become big stars in their own right - Michael McDonald was probably the best example. He moved on from Steely Dan to the Doobies, and changed their sound to the more 'jazz' oriented version.
