  •  trying to find what we can DO in our real world (5+ / 0-)

is so challenging. Earlier this year, I took over as coordinator of a small business working as a mini sustainability center.  At first things seemed like I had found my prize oyster, but then business got in the way. Folks vying for power and position in the network got in the way ... and now they are selling Christmas trees!

    Go figure.

Same disappointment in starting a Transition Initiative. Something there is about human nature that fails to keep focus on the big picture ... we have not yet evolved, many of us, sufficiently to put our shoulders collectively to the task and put aside our former sense of priorities.

at Saddleback College.  Last week, during down time, a discussion developed about political issues and my daughter said the consensus was: if it doesn't affect my personal life, then it doesn't matter.  She was deeply disturbed by the lack of empathy, accountability, and concern the students showed.

Boatsie, thanks for keeping this topic alive.  It is still an issue that is at the forefront for many of us and there is so little information available.

      •  If it is not an economic issue (0+ / 0-)

it will not be an issue.  Of course the economics are already being affected, whether its the cost of cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy or the low cost of natural gas.  But people can't, or don't want to put it together yet.

When Miami looks like Venice, it will start to get the attention of Floridians, but the people that are safe in the Rockies won't give a shit.
