  •  Flying Goat, I'll make this simple. (5+ / 0-)

The way this child was killed, with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, is exactly the way 100s of Police Accidental Discharges happens.

Hundreds.  Per-year.  Here's how, unloading a pistol should work:

    1) Remove magazine.
    2) Rack slide, removing the chambered round.
    3) Check chamber to see round is removed, release slide.
    4) Lower hammer - often done (wrong) by pulling the trigger and just letting the hammer fall on an "empty" chamber.

    Here's how it goes wrong:

    1) Rack slide, removing the chambered round.
    2) Check chamber to see the round is removed, release slide.
    3) Remove magazine.
    4) Pull trigger, to lower the hammer.  BANG

In our police station, this was done by an 16 year veteran, who shot through his locker, and plowed a furrow in desk of the seated Lieutenant.

    5) look inconspicuous when the LT comes through the door.

A far better outcome than a dead child.

      Perhaps not so simple afterall.

I'm arguing that not taking into consideration that using the argument "other things can kill, too!" to argue against gun regulations, or an outright gun ban, makes no sense.

You respond with what happens when things go wrong, and saying that they go wrong a lot even when professionals do it.  You seem to be arguing that professionals do things wrong a lot, too, supporting safety restrictions.

Perhaps you're responding to the wrong post?
