The election choices were quite clear and we (democrats) won. Letting the tax cuts for all expire and the sequestration will be far more harmful to the republicans than the democrats/progressives. We should start demanding from the Republicans. They need to concede to what the citizens of the United States of America voted on. Why are you all muddying the waters with talk of negotiations? We should be focused on carrying out the wishes of the majority of the citizens of this country. If the Republicans are recalcitrant, then let the tax cuts expire. They don't kick in immediately and neither does the sequestration. So there is no major emergency that gives the Republicans ANY leverage in the negotiations. Tell them what we want and they can go to hell if they don't like it. They have been coddled for too long and shown too much respect when they deserve none.

because we do not have a Parliamentary system of government.

If we did then the GOP would have been removed from power, and Democrats installed.

They would then have had four or five years to enact their mandate, at which time the American people would vote on the results.

The US Federal government is actually one of the weakest, and least effective systems on the planet, at least in terms of getting anything done.

The minority can almost perpetually frustrate the will of the majority, and that benefits no one other than those wanting to maintain the status quo.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.
