I'm sorry you and your Mom are going through all this. I know the Governor.. Voldemort.. down here is cutting attendant hours as well. I've never applied for that with my other half who has CP because he's mostly functionally independent, so long as we have things set up right. Our kitchen isn't accessible, but we have two kids old enough to help out now, and I always just did it anyway. It was tricky when our daughter was an infant and our son was 7 and still a mostly violent autistic, but we got through it. A lot of compensation techniques, having room mates so there were always extra adult hands around when I was at work, and a lot of prep. (I used to keep sandwiches in zip lock bags in the fridge so my son just had to fetch them, ditto with small bottles of drinks). Now that the boy is 17 and the daughter is 9 some things are a lot easier. They both can use the microwave now, my daughter uses the stove top and my son uses the oven. He can use the stove top but he's paranoid about accidently leaving it on. So we have our own system we've worked out over the years. And if I do leave Dad home alone, I leave extra drinks and food out for him (things that won't spoil obviously).
