...by the leadership of the other half -- then I'd say the US has a much bigger problem than mere "treason."

When in the course of human events....

I'm keeping an open mind about secession. It strikes me as a human right to live under a government that you believe represents you instead of one that deliberately harms you. The Bush administration is a perfect example of the terrible price Democrats and decent people are paying and will be paying for the rest of their lives.

    Food for thought.

you see the necessity of secession described as a generality. Yep.

      •  Just a generality. (6+ / 0-)

However, we came very close to final economic destruction at the individual level (47 to 51). Not only would people be impoverished by the final wealth transfer to the top -- but they would be without food.

It does not have to come to violence. In fact, it may preclude violence. Or a humanitarian catastrophe.

    •  Not all Democrats n/t (0+ / 0-)
      •  The democrats were mortally harmed (5+ / 0-)

...by a government that did not represent them.

I know there were vichy democrats (and still are) throughout government. And I know many here completely agreed with the disastrous wholesale murder of the people of Afghanistan and Iraq by the US military. They are even willing to vote for the stupid or corrupt (as long as they are democrats) who supported the Iraq war, for example.

But most democrats will pay the penalty for these war crimes that were thrust upon them by a government that did not represent them. Indeed, that government set out to knowingly harm them. The republicans will pay a terrible price, as well. But that is richly deserved since it was their votes and their government that brought down the empire.

No human should live under the terrible tyranny of a slim majority. And each should fully suffer or fully enjoy the consequences of their particular vote.

I think the Civil War should be brought to an end -- 150 years is long enough -- by whatever treaty we can arrange.
