  •  No, there won't be blood, there will (0+ / 0-)

be an epidemy of people inflicted with mental health issues that will end in self--destruction. They will be too sick to cause havoc other to themselves and their closest local surroundings. I could imagine you will see a government ordered shudown of most of the internet that will among others stop the spread of more hystery and detachment from reality.

I believe we will fall off many more cliffs and the destruction of the internet will be one that will cause the deepest fall causing lots of pain, destruction and lots of violence, but also the beginning of getting control over a reality-challenged mass movement of individuals, who look online like they could "take over" and off-line like patients who need a doctor and much love.

I am sort of not enchanted with this diary, because I wonder what it is good for. There is nothing you can do about the upcoming mental health epidemy.

OK. I admit it. I don't know what this diary is good for.

....from killing millions.  A charismatic winger leader, aided and abetted by RWW billionaires and rogue elements of the military, could be extremely dangerous.

And the government shutdown of the Internet you speak of sounds an awful lot like fascism to me.

The purpose of this diary is to alert people as to the potential seriousness of the problem.  Forewarned is forearmed and I'll feel much safer with something more than "a doctor and much love" between me and those people.

      •  of course, I understand that purpose of the diary, (0+ / 0-)

... I was in my thoughts beyound that basic fact.

But don't you think that millions of Germans were aware of racial right-wingers among them in the mid twenties and early thirties? Can you suggest anything what could have stopped the power grab back then and prevented the genocide following it ?

It's certainly not done by "being aware of the problem", because most people were back then and most people are aware of it today here in the US.

You mistook my criticism. Millions of Germans had a "mental health issue" with regards to their racist feelings toward Jews. If you believe that writing about it will help, I think it's a pipe dream. You can analyze a mental health situation all day long and write smart about it, that doesn't mean you have changed anything in the mind conditions of those who are inflicted with it.

I was not clear in what I tried to say. I don't believe anymore in analyzing a problem is equal to solving and changing a problem. It should be the case, but I don't think it works when it comes to mental health problems of hate, racisim, hate speech etc.

It's done a pretty good job of helping to topple some of our modern despots and it was undreamed of in 1930s Germany.  Of course, that's speculative but the situation today is vastly different than back then.

And I'm not interested in changing the mental conditions of RWW bigots.  I realze fully that that is indeed a pipe dream.  I see them more as a threat to public safety than a mental health problem.  I want the sane majority alerted as to the serious danger they pose and I want my government, within the limits of the Constitution, to do whatever is necessary to minimize that threat.  And that, to me, is the value of diaries such as this one.

was born out of other concerns that were not the topic of the diary and as that misplaced and harsh - (internet being not only a vehicle to promote transparency, democracy and fact-based analysis, but also a vehicle to spread lies, hate and the power to unlimited surveillance and data hording) - I apologize to the author for that. Sorry that I posted a comment out of context without better explanations.
