  •  I don't doubt that there's much quality stuff (0+ / 0-)

to be found in both forums, but I find the S/N ratio to be too low to be worth my own time and energy, given the way that I like to process information and engage in discussions with others. The more I know about a given issue and the more I discuss it, the less patience I have for nonsense, errata, trivia and remediation. I think that over the long haul these in the moment micro-discussions (which most of them are) end up having a very small impact on how things turn out. I'm much more interested these days in fundamentals than specifics, and I believe that it's the fundamentals that end up affecting things the most. E.g. how well Americans understand how Social Security and deficits really work rather than whether John Boehner's most recent brain fart is something to take seriously or how silly Mitt Romney looked pumping gas after the election. The latter might be fun to chat and gloat about on in the moment, but it means very, very little in the end.
