  •  It will end when some working people (6+ / 0-)

    stop voting for Republicans.

The working class in America also has elected its own grave diggers.

It's a long struggle and we must keep struggling, but without real class consciuosness, it will continue to be a difficult struggle.

    •  thank you, Tom (6+ / 0-)

I'm in a deeply pessimistic mood this morning.

Perhaps I should delete this diary.

Yes, even my own 49er union brothers (IUOE) endorse a Teabagger Republican. Lack of regulation in the construction industry means they die in greater #'s.

I never worked a year that a 49er did not die on the job. One terrible year we lost 5 which included a job that I worked on.

      Our lives are cheap.

They think nothing of putting our lives on the bargaining table.

Somehow we need to get that message out that when they bargain with healthcare access, safety regs, UE benefits, safety net, they are bargaining with our lives.

WE NEVER FORGET Our Labor Martyrs: a project to honor the men, women and children who lost their lives in Freedom's Cause. For Nov: Lives lost trying to earn a living.

      •  It's awfully hard not to be pessimistic (7+ / 0-)

right now.  The screws are turning more and more to wrap up a "behind the scenes" deal that will affect those of us on Medicare and Social Security (and poor Medicaid, which gets little love).  The Democratic Party today is what the Republican Party was 1950-1980 (discounting social mores).  The Republican Party is gone off the right wing cliff.  So that leaves us progressives as the ugly stepchildren who are left in the cold.

      •  It's hard and you are a stalwart. (4+ / 0-)

The Michigan thing bugs the hell out of me.  I grew up reading Solidarity when Reuther was still alive.  (My dad was an autoworker).  The home of the Teamsters and UAW going right to work.  I hope the Dem meeting with Snyder prevents it.

Michigan has to become a total battleground for 2014 iof right to work is imposed.

There are always ups and downs and there have been a lot of downs.

Look for silver linings.  The DoL, OSHA, and NLRB are still in Dem hands.  While far from perfect, it makes a difference.

I remember it is a long struggle.  I also read Jesse Jackson's speech about keeping hope alive.  It's always darkest before the dawn.  That may not be true - it may not get better - but we have to believe it will get better and we can help make it better for there to be any chance at all.

Sometimes our "irrational" belief and hope is all we have, so we must cling to it.

        Take care. Solidarity.

      for two years.

We pretended we had to "wait for the Bush Tax cuts to expire", instead of ending them.  For anyone.

      Republicans didn't do that, TomP.

This place needs a PVP server.
