    Seems like it's been going on a long, long time with few breaks. Makes me think of two things, though I have no personal experience at all with either.

    1 - The Hopi people use drip irrigation to grow corn where there is little water. Dunno if that would apply.

    2 - I'm thinking of getting an Aero-Garden to use year-round for veggies. It's pretty automated, but gets good reviews. It does use water (and electricity), but not nearly as much as you'd need outdoors (I think).

    Our drought in Arkansas this summer cost a lot of farmers their livestock feed, and they sold their cattle for next to nothing. Sale barns had to turn people away.
