I so wish that I had written daily notes while my husband lay dying in the hospital. I wish I had written how I got through the process after the death, I wish that I could write about the undo of stuckness, but I am still living with that, even though I have paid off two mortgages, gotten my daughter into nursing school, son is off on his own, and friends think I have done well, and my husband would have been proud about his family's survival.

We, who survive, find our own ways, and yes, it does make us stronger.

Americans, while occasionally willing to be serfs, have always been obstinate about being peasantry. F. Scott Fitzgerald, the Great Gatsby
