  •  Colbert is not a Republican (4+ / 0-)

He is a devoutly religious Catholic - and personally goes along the line w/progressive Catholics.

I think it would be the best gag of all time if he actually won that Senate seat as a Republican.

    •  Agreed. He should just run in 2014. For real. (0+ / 0-)
    •  I think it would be great fun for two reasons (1+ / 0-)

First, when he came back to Comedy Central he could add "Former Senator" to his on-screen resume. There's plenty of gold to be mined there.

Second, I have to wonder whether he would caucus with the Democrats or the Republicans. If the Democrats, that sort of blows his cover when he goes back to the TV show. If the Republicans, though, he could join the caucus with the intention of not only not going along with anything McConnell proposes, but actively working to tie the minority caucus in knots. I doubt he would actually have any interest in keeping the job past the next election, so he wouldn't have to worry about committee chairmanships or other perks of kissing the majority leader's keister.

It's not gonna happen but it's great fun to think about.

If you can't say anything nice about the GOP, please post here more often.
