    is an alarming trend.

    Police often say, “Our only concern is getting home safely at the end of the day.” Such statements suggest an outsized sense of danger. In reality, police work isn’t in the top ten dangerous professions, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. In fact, no government job is in the top ten. It also suggests that concern for public safety takes a backseat to concern for officer safety.

    Gone are the reluctant warriors who rarely, if ever, use or even brandish their weapons. This is a fiction from the past. The new breed of cop has a military mentality and often a military background.
