  •  Being against Medicaid doesn't scare the true (5+ / 0-)

believers in the South ... and it doesn't seem to matter much electorally. "Medicaid is a program for 'those people,' so obviously it should be cut.' [That's white racist GOPer-speak down here ...]

    •  Right up to the point where (6+ / 0-)

those Southern Moms lose medicaid for their kids.

The Republican Governors don't actually want to do that.

It would sure energise the vote in traditionally low-turnout demographics.

If the GOP want to go there, fine, but my guess would be that they are playing to their own gallery, and actually would prefer not to take the risk.

It's a win/win for them if they fight against the money, then take it to improve services.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.

      •  the Republican moms will blame Obama (1+ / 0-)

because they are incapable of coming to terms with a black man in the White House. They will continue to vote straight-ticket Republican, because they're into the GOP's Kulturkampf bullshit.

The Democratic moms will blame Obama because they're pissed he's cutting their benefits just because they happen to live in a more conservative state, and they'll stay home on election day.

As a result, voter turnout on the Democratic side will be decreased, and purple states will go red, red states will get redder.
