    •  The Maryland result (3+ / 0-)

      was 7 of 8 Democratic House seats (a gain of one) or 87.5% of the total, in a state where Obama won an even 62%.  Not twice as many seats as Obama's percentage, but  a larger percentage differential than IL or NY.  

      Furthermore, all 7 Dem seats are likely to be safe for the forseeable future, making the Maryland effort one of the more successful gerrymanders politically (if not in an aesthetically pleasing manner.)  Too bad it was only good for one extra seat (an 8-0 could have been tried but might have produced several more vulnerable Dem seats.)

        As a resident of District 8, I'm not thrilled with how we were re-drawn. But, whatever. We got another seat out of it.
