  •  I gave up on broadcast TV a few years ago (3+ / 0-)

Ditched the cable box and the payments. Now I get all my content over the Web, mostly through Google+, which, like Netflix, has a pay-per-view system set up. Most of my news is garnered from 'Net sources like BBC, Democracy NOW, and other sites (which are alos in my Google+ stream). I watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report from Comedy Central's site (albeit a day later than the original broadcast, but then, it's free!), and can YouTube most any video piece linked in comment threads at any one of a dozen blogs I frequent.

I, too, bemoan the loss of high-quality journalism on TV, and am sick to death of the "Honey Boo-Boo"i-ng and "Real Housewives"-ing of today's media packages.

I have decided to use the movies "Grumpy Old Men" and 'Grumpy Old Men II" not as sources of mere entertainment, but of inspiration and direction. They will be my instruction manuals for the remainder of my stay on this blue marble.
