Constitutional issues. Those are different. Amendments like those are not "tinkering." And they're definitely not "having a little fun."

Making every President a lame duck in his second term has a bad influence on policy.

And, for that matter, the future life of a sitting Vice President isn't all that great.

Happy little moron, Lucky little man.

      •  I'm not entirely sure it was bad policy (3+ / 0-)

Look how much time politicians spend campaigning instead of governing.

Giving a president one term where he has to worry about backlash in the next election (and to learn how to be a president effectively) is good, but also giving him a period of time where, if re-elected, his he can actually take some chances and make use of what he learned in the first term is also good.

Finally giving a new field a chance every 8 years seems ok to me.  President-for-life doesn't sit well with me.

    •  maybe I should remove the snark tag and make (2+ / 0-)

this seriously. The president doesn't hit lame duck status until his/her last one or two years. There's plenty more to do before that happens. The best part of the last (second) term is that the president isn't restricted by worries about re-election. He/she can be much bolder, not having to watch every step. I think that's what we're witnessing now. In the past, Obama has been willing to make agreements that make everyone come out okay. Now he has no such restrictions. I like this new Obama better.

cause bad side-effects in politics.  Just look at the lame duck session in Michigan right now.  Think of all of the stuff that outgoing Presidents do (pardons, etc) on their way out.

Why do you think there was an Amendment that made Presidents take office in JANUARY instead of MARCH?  That's tinkering to reduce the time period for a lame duck.

This is not a silly idea.  And you might find someone willing to primary a sitting President if s/he has outstayed his/her welcome.
