    reminds me of a couple of things.

    Jonathan Miller has said that he grew up with a stammer, and his way of dealing with it was to enlarge his vocabulary, and when he was speaking and saw that he was coming to a word that might give him trouble, he would quickly search for a synonym, or to some rephrasing that would lead him away from the stammer.

    P.G. Wodehouse (who I don't believe had a stammer, although I may be wrong) wrote a story about a man with a stammer, who consults an expert who teaches methods for overcoming the problem.  As you'd expect from Wodehouse, the story is hilarious without being at all mean.
