  •  I call bullshit: they can get all the points they (17+ / 0-)

want by taking off the table now. A majority of Americans want it off the table now. By keeping it on the table, what the President says is that he's open to cutting benefits while leaving the House and Senate Democrats out to hang.

This is the same stupid line of reasoning that so screwed the health care reform debate two years ago.

Life is the ultimate economic bubble; we leave this life with all the capital we initially invested: none.

    •  Agree completely. And, it makes it easier to blame (9+ / 0-)

Obama and the Democrats later if there is a concession to raise the eligibility age. YOU KNOW that the Republicans will just salivate endlessly blaming Obama and the Dems for this:

THIS WAS THE DEMOCRATS IDEA! WE NEVER WANTED TO TAKE ANY BENEFITS AWAY FROM GRANDMA!

Just consider: has anyone heard Boehner utter a single word about wanting to raise the Medicare eligibility age since the election? I challenge anyone to find a quote. All he does is rail about cutting reckless spending, and decrying the President's failure to make an offer.

The whole strategy is to force Obama into making this HIS idea, and then to hang him with it.

And if Obama falls into that trap, he's not the chessmaster we all desperately hope he is. Let's keep the pressure on in the meantime!

The only entitlement that needs reforming is the inbred belief of the 0.1% that they are entitled to 99.9% of the wealth and 100% of the power.
