  •  I am at a painful philosophical point: (19+ / 0-)

I genuinely have concluded that Republicans are not just "protecting" the rich, no - they want to increase the rich's security by making them richer and the gap bigger and KNOW their policies screw over the vast majority of people and simply no longer care.

I used to believe that they were simply mistaken on what policy promoted better general welfare of citizens and a neat consequence was that their beliefs also helped big business interests.

I now think that they KNOW they are truly full of sh*t, they KNOW that their policies will increase poverty, increase the deficit (remember, they LIKE deficits, deficits help them justify "drowning government in a bathtub"), negatively impact the lives of 90% of Americans and truly no longer care.

They believe that that top 10% (not just 2%) are the Americans worth working for.  That 10% is part of an international global community that transcends quaint notions of "country" to the point that screwing over your own country is TOTALLY acceptable, so long as the top are protected. . . if things get better for all folks by fluke, then so be it, but they are not interested in ideas that truly will make that happen.

They have willingly concluded that the future is not America's - - - nor is the future bright.  If they believed that the near future would be a time of growth and prosperity, they would be busying themselves with new ideas to make money off of everyone's prosperity.  No, they believe we are entering a post-modern "dark age" - where the vast majority of people lose past stability and hope.  Rather than act to prevent or mitigate this coming "dark age" they feel the best policy is to tighten up the gains of the top to ensure that the "real" people - the WORLD's rich, are safe.

Blessed are the peacemakers, the poor, the meek and the sick. Message to Repug Fundies: "DO you really wonder "what would Jesus do?" I didn't think so.

    •  They are doing what the Owners want: (10+ / 0-)

helping to create a neo-feudal world of Owners and surfs. The plan is that the US standard of living falls until it meets the rising standard of living in China. Also, denial of global warming is for the masses, not for the Owners, who are making preparations to survive it. But the serfdom will not be included among the survivors.

It's time we woke up to the fact that the goal of these guys for most of humanity is death, or slavery for the lucky ones who don't die.

I've been trying to get at, but afraid to believe.

After an interaction with one of them recently, an econ prof who said to my face he basically could care less if lots of old poor people died due to his preferred Draconian policies, like cutting SS benefits 20% immediately, I got to that point.

It's like when Reagan quoted that piece about "touching the face of God," I feel like I touched the face of Evil. Because such severely cruel policies and attitudes about the poor (who are "not really poor" compared to the poor in other countries") are nothing but evil, consigning, willfully, millions of people to death because you don't think they are worthwhile, that IS EVIL.

You said it well, 4CasandChlo and I completely agree (my emphasis added):

I now think that they KNOW they are truly full of sh*t, they KNOW that their policies will increase poverty, increase the deficit (remember, they LIKE deficits, deficits help them justify "drowning government in a bathtub"), negatively impact the lives of 90% of Americans and truly no longer care.

......That 10% is part of an international global community that transcends quaint notions of "country" to the point that screwing over your own country is TOTALLY acceptable, so long as the top are protected. . . if things get better for all folks by fluke, then so be it, but they are not interested in ideas that truly will make that happen.
