      How many assassinations take place at long distance with an assault rifle or semi-auto? Close up, pistol of some sorts. Long distance, you want accuracy. Hence, bolt action rifle.

        Is pretty good with an AR15 at 500 yds.

        Oswald was shooting at only 50 yards right? Could have done that with even an AK.

        KV should know this:

        First two were definitely production weapons circa 1956 and were sniper versions of the M1 Garand carried in WWII.
        The third was the current-issue battle rifle in 1963, and uses a detachable magazine with a far more powerful round than the AK-47.

        There's absolutely nothing "new and more lethal" than what was available in the 1950s/1960s.

        The average gun was blued gunmetal and walnut, or perhaps green/gray phosphate "Parkerized" in color, and had wooden "furniture" - stocks.
        It looked more... "classic" - compared to the "ray gun" M-15/M-16 and AK-47s.
