  •  This is not a good development in the kabuki... (14+ / 0-)

...and it indicates "hints" of a furthering "softening" in the President's already-too-soft position.

We've gone from an "increase in the age of Medicare eligibility" to an increase in the age of Medicare eligibility AND "a new formula that would reduce cost-of living increases for Social Security."

This is totally unacceptable bullshit, and the Democratic Party will have a full-blown MUTINY on its hands if this ends up bearing any semblance to the final result.

The fact that it's a piece by Calmes, who's in the tank for the administration, just makes it even scarier.

    •  There's been ample warning of this... (6+ / 0-)

last summer grand bargain offer? Remember? That's when the mutiny should have occurred. This time it will be too late.

    •  the source itself in bold says (0+ / 0-)

      "he opposes them"

      did you not read?

      •  Selective reading and delusion on your part (0+ / 0-)
But his stance is undercut by the fact that he had tentatively agreed to both proposals in last year’s secret talks, in return for Mr. Boehner’s support for raising taxes on high-income earners.
He doesn't matter if he says he opposes them. What matters is what he will trot out as "a necessary evil" ans sign into law. You really have a big problem with understanding what you read and argumentation.

And it does matter that it's a piece by Calmes. The adults know this.

I don't negotiate grand bargains with deficit terrorists!

but I have to point out that the President is doing one thing right, if this article is accurate:  he's using us as an excuse for not doing what the right wants done (the right both inside and outside of the Democratic party).

If he'd done that starting in Jan 2009 instead of Dec 2012, we would be having a very different discussion now.
