They won't get a refund.  What if not getting a refund works out better?  What if there are more cops, fire fighters, and teachers?  What if everyone gets a job building infrastructure?  What if that is over the cliff?

I'm talking about the effect of sequestration on federal employees: furloughs, pay and benefit cuts etc. going into 2013.
And hiring freezes--meaning fewer jobs, not more--is probably the first response measure to sequestration at most fed agencies

      •  I understand the fiscal cliff to be everybody's (0+ / 0-)

tax goes up.  So then the richest country on the planet is no longer broke.  Cuts no longer need to be made in the name of being broke.

        Could that scenario be?

PS, also the richest country in the history of the planet.

          Cuts--sequestration--are the other half.

          •  Wow what are we going to do with all the (0+ / 0-)

money that will come rolling in?  I would hate it if my job was on the line.  I spent the last years of my work life holding a WARN notice so I know exactly how it feels.

But these Republicans are making shit up.  If all this happens and the money comes rolling in to the Federal Government, how can that be a bad thing.  They will never want to pay off the debt, because China doesn't hold the debt, rich people's kids hold the debt.

I think your jobs are relatively safe.  But I know that doesn't offer much solace.  I am just some idiot on the internet.

on December 28th, IIRC, meaning a couple of million people won't have any income all of a sudden.  That to me is the cliff part.
