    •  Repubs LOST bigtime during this election (4+ / 0-)

and they are STILL driving their agenda forward.

They are mean and pushy and demanding and that's what dems are missing.

Dems can't get what they want with please and thank you and "I'd like to request 2 minutes to make a statement on the floor".

How are the Repubs getting their way despite losing?

      By being very very aggressive.

Do Dems really want what they want?

or are they just talking fancy?

        ours is.

that is changing but not quick enough.  americans want tax cuts.  they don't understand policy or science.

religion clouds many.  so many issues.  we have to thread the needle.  it's pretty much always been that way.

wimpy and skittish about anything more aggressive than a meekly-worded request.

        •  When I was bullied in school (5+ / 0-)

it continued until I stopped being a wimp.

When I fought back, hit people, hurt them, THEN and ONLY THEN did it stop.

Pleading did no good. Ignoring them did no good. Being nice did no good.

          Hurting them worked beautifully.

          Stone cold fact.

Same shit with dems and repubs.

Dems are just too wimpy: repubs are getting what they want and we aren't.

No - I don't really care what we need to do to win at this point in time: winning ugly is fine with me because winning is SO IMPORTANT.

I don't want to put up with needless repub bullshit and conole myself with "at least I didn't do anything unpleasant".

          Winning is good and essential.

Losing because some are interested in being weak isn't a happy thought.

    •  Yes a thousand times yes! (4+ / 0-)

We must load the pipeline with progressives.  It's today's library board or city council member, township supervisor or county commissioner, that are tomorrow's State Reps and State Senators.  etc.

We need to be talking from the progressive point of view and getting ourselves elected.

This is not a spectator sport.  Real lives are at stake, and our young people's future depends on us taking the lead.

    •  Running for office costs money.... (0+ / 0-)

....and quite a bit of it.  You might manage to get elected to the school or water board, maybe even city council.  But beyond that, you start attracting the attention of the moneymen.  If you want your career to advance, you become beholden to one or more oif the many monied interests out to buy your vote.  Then, you are no longer your own person nor the true representative of your constituents.  You do what you're told and you like it.

I'm all in favor of leveraging the political machine to the extent that can be done.  But we should never forget that all the meaningful progressive reforms in our history started with the dissatisfaction and unrest of the people, not in the halls of the legislature.
