  •  We are in "the long war" with these assholes (34+ / 0-)

My pops and I talk politics quite frequently; he was convinced before (and after) the election that once Republicans lost they would "see the light" and be willing to compromise, perhaps backing down from the more radical ideas which dominate their party. I couldn't have disagreed more, and still do disagree - strongly.

These people are like the Terminator - they will never stop, ever. Destruction of social programs and tax cuts is their raison d'etre. They are playing the long game - the 2012 election is merely a temporary setback for them. If it takes them 100 years, they are absolutely determined to destroy Medicare and Social Security, and cut millionaires' taxes to approximately zero. They are relentless and have a single-minded focus on their goal(s). That is why any attempt at compromise with these insects is an exercise in futility: regardless of any electoral results, they feel that they ALWAYS have the upper hand. The only thing we as a movement can do is snuff them at the ballot box and force our own crap politicians to do OUR bidding, and never back down or give an inch to these right-wing assholes.

    •  Pops doesn't seem to realize that these people (9+ / 0-)

since the days of Newt and his Contract on America have fed the base the line that Democrats are doing the work of Satan.  How then, can you compromise with the Devil?  That is why Republicans have lost the ability to reason and compromise.

They have screamed so long that Democrats are the enemy, any accommodation of any Democratic wishes look like giving aid and comfort to an enemy in battle.  To do so invites the inevitable charges of weakness, cowardice, and treason.  Pops must have been thinking of the old Republican party.  Tell him to ask Richard Lugar where that went.

      ... over these assholes.

I hate that, but we all know it's true.  I actually believed after 2008 -- and I'm way too old to have fallen into the trap -- that if the economy recovered and Obama was sitting at 58-60 percent, they would play ball or suffer the consequences.

Then we learned that on Jan. 20, 2009, they were already plotting to fight any recovery and destroy Obama at all costs.

They will never stop; I don't why I ever believed they would, not after eight decades of their venality and soullessness.

    •  Yes much like the skinheads, KKK, militia militant (0+ / 0-)

types who were underground and meeting in secret for the last couple of decades, think they have found a home in the Tea Party. And these types never quit their hate either.  I see the Tea Party the same way, but we can hope like the Neo Nazis and KKK, that their numbers and their influences Shrinks as time goes on.

We can only hope for shrinkage of their influence, power, and message, and numbers.

    •  it's been over a century since unions created the (0+ / 0-)

"middle class" as the strongest political force in the nation. Since then the Oligarchs (once called the robber barons) have fought bit by bit to distroy middle class rule.

Their first order of business was to distroy unions and thus working people power. Next they turned the nation towards neo-liberal economics (Reagans trickle down) and bank/corporate deregulation. Of course their are many other fronts on their war to regain what has traditionally been their place as rulers. Actually the reign of the middle class has been a short abberation in the natural order of the oligarchal rule of this country.

They've made great strides in each of those areas and are poised to assume their rightful place atop America once again.

America could have chosen to be the worlds doctor, or grocer. We choose instead to be her policeman. pity
