  •  Let them obstruct. Then go all 14th on them. (5+ / 0-)

Let the Senate pass the debt ceiling. Attach whatever you want to it. Let the House obstruct. Then Obama says,

"You know what, the Constitution says we can't do it this way. I hereby declare unilaterally that the debt limit is raised."

Amendment 14, Section 4. The validity of the public debt ... shall not be questioned.
And voila, the House Republicans are neutered.

Purists will object, "But you threw out the part that says, 'authorized by law'". So what? Let the courts decide. The higher principle is that you can't question the validity of the public debt. You can't let them take the rest of us hostage.

“Americans are fighters. We're tough, resourceful and creative, and if we have the chance to fight on a level playing field, where everyone pays a fair share and everyone has a real shot, then no one - no one - can stop us. ”-- Elizabeth Warren

Press Secretary has stated with specificity and clarity that the President does not believe he has the authority to end run Congress on the debt ceiling using the 14th Amendment and will not use pursue that option. The President has taken this one off the table.

      "let's talk about that"
