If she 'may have been confirmed', then the Administration should have shown some guts and pushed it through. Otherwise, this is a full capitulation for nothing.

IF this opens the door for Obama to nominate Kerry, then game, set and match for the baggers and thugs. Surely Obama must not nominate Kerry to any other post right now.

This all smells of a big time cave in . I hope I am wrong.

I probably am, but I'm pissed now.

Many Progressives--I am one--were strongly lobbying their Senators that Susan Rice, who has heavy holdings in Trans Canada and other companies that are associated with the Keystone Pipeline and tar sands development, and who has been quite hawkish on our "wars" (more so than Obama), was not the right person for this job.  Too many conflicts.  I think the fight could have been bipartisan, or at least would bring up these conflicts, and that is what he couldn't deal with and why he began to back off giving her full support.  Kerry really is way more qualified and, now, McCain, et al., will have to shut up.  Republicans will once again show themselves to hate people of color, women, and appear crazy to moderates in their party.
