  •  The problem is obvious (24+ / 0-)

This country is awash in guns.

If you're mentally ill, getting a gun is easier than getting effective medical treatment for your condition.

    That's the problem.

You can't solve the problem by arming more people.

You can't solve the problem by ignoring it.

You can't solve the problem by clinging to the Second Amendment.

When it was written, the Constitution did not prohibit slavery. We changed it.

When it was written, the Constitution did not allow women to vote. We changed it.

When it was written, the Constitution didn't protect free speech, freedom of religion, freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. WE CHANGED IT.

The Constitution is a living document. We can change it if it is not serving the needs of the people of the United States. The Second Amendment is not serving the needs of the people of the United States.

The Second Amendment does not prevent the government from oppressing us. WE prevent the government from oppressing us with our votes.

The Second Amendment does not make us safer -- it exposes us to threats like this one.

The Second Amendment is a remnant of a society that changed long ago. It serves no purpose other than making it impossible to address random violence and carnage.

If this is not the time to talk about this, when? I want to know, WHEN?

Let's set a date and time.

Wealth doesn't trickle down -- it rises up.

We don't restart that clock if(when) there is another such shooting. Is it too early to talk Clackmas yet? How about the Sihk Temple, or Aurora?

A winning campaign? You didn't build that...

    •  Totally agree (0+ / 0-)

Modernize the constitution, it was written over 200 years ago. Only someone in the armed forces should have a weapon, a civilian does not need to be armed.
      Simple equation, solve it.

      More guns= more violence
