I have no issue with background checks.  I have no issue with an automatic weapon ban.  I'm fine with a 10 bullet magazine limit.

But the question you really have to ask yourself is, how do you make the laws stricter, closer to China's to get the improvement you seek, without violating our rights?  How do you ban gun ownership from law abiding citizens who pass background checks?

Because one day one of those gun owners may very well snap.  May very well go crazy, take that legally owned gun and go kill people.  How do you decide ahead of time who will go crazy and who won't, so as to know who to deny gun ownership to?

Or do you just want to deny guns to everyone?  You can't if you don't want a communist state, so we're back to presumed innocent before being proven guilty.  Who do you want to lock up and define as crazy, and who do you leave free?

Here's a clue: how many other democratic states define owning a weapon as a right?

Do you even know what communism is? It is about common ownership of the means of production in a country. That's at the heart of communism. Limiting gun rights may be something that is done in a communist country, but it is not a characteristic of communism. It may just be that people who have otherwise regressive ideas on economic policy actually have better ideas on crime than we do. Shocking, I know, considering we are a country that sentences 13-year olds to life in prison without parole.

As has been pointed out - we place limits on many things. We deny many types of weapons to everyone. This does not make us communist. What you fail to understand is that freedom is not a singular concept. When every possible action is free, none are free. Which is why we put limits on freedoms when we deem, for one reason or another, it is necessary to do so. Equating this sort of social governance to communism is some combination of dishonest and ignorant.
