"There has been no significant change in public views on the issue of gun control and gun rights following the July 20th shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. Currently, 47% say it is more important to control gun ownership, while 46% say it is more important to protect the rights of Americans to own guns. That is virtually unchanged from a survey earlier this year in April, when 45% prioritized gun control and 49% gun rights."

Everyone to your entrenched positions!  Of course, as someone on the side of making it harder to impossible for the shooter to get a gun, this news wouldn't cause me to reexamine my position.  The problem is with the inherent selfishness of the people for whom stories like this don't prompt a change in position, but rather a battening down the hatches.

I'm sure I'll get to learn once again how safe guns make us on aggregate (never mind "controlling" for handguns or military weapons, or even using the best studies); that the founders wanted it this way (as if they were confronted either with this type of weapons or a non-agrarian society); and that gun control is racist (as if the attitudes of certain folks in the 1870s had anything to say to problems today).

Let's forget about the children who lost their lives today - the real victims are people who might someday have to wait a few extra days to buy their 10th automatic rifle, but probably won't.  Still, can you imagine the fear?

    Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult.
