of President Barack Obama but this statement does not go NEARLY far enough - it is weak to speak of "meaningful action" without actually having the nerve to SAY WHAT THAT ACTION IS.

Sheesh.  He acts like someone who is worried about his re-election chances.  LEAD, Barack.  LEAD the country.

as someone who wouldn't describe himself anywhere nearly as Obama's #1 supporter, but someone who does wish he'd start behaving like a president thinking about more than his reelection prospects.

apparently his remarks were intended to be much longer.

He cut them short because he was having a hard time getting through it. He may have had a lot more to say on many issues.

But he stopped because he couldn't get through them.

Hopefully he will lead on this issue when the dust settles. But for today, I think his statement was appropriate. He called for action without expressly speaking on an issue that fiercely divides Americans.

But I agree with you in that I hope once the dust settles he will call for more concrete action, although I know that it will fall on deaf ears in a Republican-controlled House.

His simple emotional statement was far more effective than hot rhetoric.
