The diary author was wondering if it was safe for him and his family to leave their home. I was just stating the fact that his family was more at risk from being in an auto accident that being a victim of gun violence. That's particularly true if you counted only random mass murders. I was just offering some perspective. It isn't any more dangerous for his family to go out of the house today than it was yesterday. Gun violence in the US is trending down. I don't think any of us knows the answer why, but it is.

I'm sorry but I just don't understand people who want to be "reasonable" or whatever to such a degree that they think that the right to get a gun whenever and wherever you want no matter who you are is worth the life of a child, let alone twenty.

      •  NO. the diarist was NOT wondering that in a (0+ / 0-)

literal sense. The diarist made many good and complex point, and, in a manner of speaking, raised several questions for all to ponder. He was discussing the sensation that is normal after a tragedy of this nature: the feeling that everything is now dangerous.

But you come along, and in reply to a person who has described several sources of deep pain... You reply as though he had asked if 2+2 were 4. So you'll "help" him by responding as if he HAD literally asked a simple, black and white question. You'll just "help" by giving a heads up that "Yes it is 4."

Because he mentioned those complex sources of pain, it appears that you were just trying to needle him, to reply off key so as to cause pain. --OR-- to deliberately ignore his pain so as to sneak in some tired points from a particular point of view.

If by chance what you did was innocent, go read Troubador's diary and the comments in it about being Aspie. You may find the shoe fits.
