  •  And how do you make it harder for mentally (16+ / 0-)

ill people to purchase guns without you being affected?

See, you want to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill as long as it doesn't effect YOU.

    And that is our problem.

I'm not opposed to you owning a gun. I don't care- most people in my family own guns. I don't support banning them at all.

But reasonable people can expect that if we're going to make it harder for person X to something, it's automatically going to make it harder for person Y to do the same thing.

But asking person Y to do that is an affront to their freedom, so it's a non fucking starter and always will be.

    P.S. I am not a crackpot.

In order to do that you'd pretty much have to infringe on the whole doctor/patient thing and the privacy issues. That doesn't affect me now at all, but could in the future if something happened to me, and I'd be fine with that.

And I really think it has more to do with how kids are raised today and the current "environment" they grow up in more than any mental issue. I mean you've got violent movies, very violent and graphic games (which makes guns seem like an cool "toy", rather than what they are), and to me at least (maybe I'm just getting old? only 48) it seems that kids today have very little respect and want to take no responsibility for anything they may do.

        •  How's that? (0+ / 0-)

I was merely pointing out that if mental health becomes an main qualifier for the right to own an gun that people with mental health problems will (IMO) have their rights violated.

Has nothing to do with me (or my lawn lol) personally other than that concern.

Violent movies and games have NO PROVEN DETERIMENTAL affect on people.

I know people who play violent games every damn day and they do not go kill 20 kids.

I am not saying we need to ban all guns I am saying we should either make it a damn sight harder to get one, limit the amount of bullets a  clip can hold or tax the hell out of bullets.

         Pick one.

        •  So what does cause the violence? (0+ / 0-)

As well as the general attitudes of people these days? Guns have been around as long as this country, so that can't be it either, so what is it in your opinion?
