How are they going to take 'personal responsibility' for their actions?

Do you think Jared Loughner is sitting around in jail bemoaning his lack of personal responsibility?  Or does he still not understand what he did or why he did it?

Why is it that people who have severe personality disorders find it so easy to get so many deadly firearms?

Where is our collective personal responsibility to ensure that children aren't executed in their kindergarten class?

That is how, we need to take responsibility for our own actions and, if needs be, become our brother's (or sister's) keeper.  Just as we do not let biting and scratching mountain lions in petting zoo's, so must we keep those who are a danger to themselves and society from acting on those same impulses and harming others.  Sorry for the rantishness of this, but I am somewhat shell-shocked still by the news.

As to the later questions you pose, that is what honest dialog is for.  And just as it your choice to choose to be religious or not, ask the Jews in Israel or the Sunnis in the Middle East or the Palestinians in Gaza what happens if if bow to the pressure to just get along.  Would you sit with Jared in his cell in solidarity?  Or let your wife or child do the same?

And for the final question, would  you trust a government that had ALL the guns?

And to answer why and where do these whackjobs have and get guns, if there were personal responsibility, would this be an issue?  A responsible person would not let someone like that have a gun, just as a child would not let an elderly parent with delusional thinking have one...

We, as a society, must take RESPONSIBILITY
and as  member of society, each of us must take a personal responsibility as our own share.
