  •  I saw the early report and it was "just" one dead (12+ / 0-)

and maybe that was the gunman and a few wounded or something and that did not seem to impress me enough to stop me from going on about my day, buying a christmas tree and outdoor lights. That I could dismiss the first story so easily is a troubling commentary on me and the world I have gotten used to. As I was driving back from the store around 1pm or so EST I turned on the radio and put on NPR. There was a person talking to a therapist of some sort about what kind of help people might need and I realized that more had happened since I left my house. Then one of the broadcasters said something about 18 children having been killed and a chill went from my head down my spine and my mind became chaotic. I could not believe what I was hearing. I chocked up and cried a little and drove home. I watched some CNN but really couldn't handle it so I turned it off. I really don't give much of a shit about Christmas and do all the regular stuff to make the family happy but later in the evening I went out back in the woods and strung the new outdoor lights that are the solid bold colors like we had when I was a kid in the 1950's on this perfectly shaped pine tree. I am keeping it on all night and I don't know why but it is some sort of weak attempt to honor those little kids whose last moment on earth must have been filled with terror. This is just to much for anyone to bear, and their parents....their parents....
