am not sure if I am sobbing because of the absolute bravery and selflessness that the Sandy Hook teachers exhibited or because of your sentiments and the comments of so many in this diary.

I speak for myself, but I suspect there are many others who feel as I do in states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio who have recently experienced ReTHUG demagoguery for pure political gain.  While the elimination of any right to have professional input into the educational practices of my school was bad...the worst part of Wisconsin ReTHUGlican's attack on teachers was how easily their scapegoating and teacher bashing succeeded in unleashing an ugly, hateful, almost demonic backlash against us.  I cannot really express the personal toll of that.  There is a kind of grief that I cannot explain, but I see its effects every school day...we are all more closed, wary, and detached from each other than we were before.  ReTHUGlicans killed more than public employee collective bargaining in Wisconsin when they opened the attack.  It may be silly to say, but I feel foolish to have been caught so emotionally unprepared...I am an intuitive person; how could I have been so clueless concerning the undercurrent of hate within fellow citizens, some students' parents, and even some family members!

So thank you for writing a diary that pays fitting tribute to the Sandy Hook teachers.  It also permitted me to read comments that affirm the teaching profession...we are not in the fight alone.  Blessings and Peace!

These are my exact thoughts about the last years as a teacher here in Wisconsin. My heart has felt broken at times. I, too, did not realize the undercurrents against people who basically only want to help create a better, more thoughtful and vibrant society.

      Thank you. <3
