  •  The war on drugs (0+ / 0-)

does nothing to stop the use of drugs.
    We know this.

We also know the problem is NOT that the DEA and all the law enforcement community cannot stop the flow of drugs.

The issue with drug use is something else; it's not on the supply side. It is on the demand side. People want drugs to use.
Naively said, cure the demand side and the supply side will cease.

So, when I look at guns, I see a similar issue.
It's not the guns, but the rampant use of them.

You said this: "Criminals will always be able to get guns.

We know that; we don’t dispute this. But look beyond the phony scare tactic: I have no fear whatsoever of the professional killer, the armed drug trafficker, the gun-toting mobster. These people are not out to kill me or my family or my neighbors. I’ll tell you what I am afraid of: I am afraid of living in a country where any ordinary Joe can “snap” after a fight with his girlfriend or boss, walk into a Kmart, come out armed like Rambo and kill dozens of innocent people on a whim.  Does that sound like the country you want to live in? I hope not.  If it is, God help us all, this nation is doomed."

This parallels what my feeling is. The inability for people to cease using drugs and coping with personal duress  instead of "snapping" are similar.

Granted, a gun can be fatal and final, but what has changed such that these incidents occur with seemingly increased frequency?

My best assumption is frustration on behalf of the attackers to assert themselves in a satisfying way. Their mark on society is designed to be highly negative.

    What has changed?
Guns have been around a long time as have the large capacity magazines.

There's something in me that doesn't accept that the gun is the changing variable.

    It's something else.

Enagaged activism wins elections. 100 million words on liberal/progressive websites gets beat by one new GOP voter casting their vote.
