  •  My sister created and teaches a class in a public (8+ / 0-)

high school for future teachers. They students in this class go out to schools and volunteer and get credit for it. Some even get some pre college credits as they work hand in hand with a local university.

I passed this on to her for her students in the teacher prep class.

( the sad thing is once my sister retires, sometime in the next 2 years) that course will probably cease to exist.
The school will not want to fund it and find someone to teach it.  It is bad enough that she is making less money at her 30 yr mark than she was making a few years ago. She is a right to work state where teachers cannot collective bargain. Teachers have taken a big pay cut plus must pay for their insurance premiums out of pocket with increased costs and higher copays.

And she buys nearly all her own school supplies but is at the school for 12 hours a day, 5 days a week and she even does some jobs for which she is not paid so the school does not have to hire more staff.

But my sister is totally dedicated to her job, it is her life. These are her kids, she has no kids of her own and the school has very supportive parents and it is a family like atmosphere.  That helps, she says, in trying to forget how the state is screwing her pay wise.
